California CCW Permit Renewal Class for Orange County and Los Angeles County Residents

The first step in the renewal process is to register for and complete your 8-Hour CCW Permit Renewal Class.

The 8-Hour Renewal Class class consists of requalifying with the weapon(s) that you want to have listed on your CCW Permit. At this point, you can add or delete weapons that will be listed on your renewed CCW Permit. There is no limit to the number of weapons you can have listed on your CCW Permit in Orange County, as long as you qualify with each one. Los Angeles County CCW Permit holders are limited to 3 weapons and must qualify with each one. You will also be updated on the legal aspects that have changed since your initial California CCW Permit Instruction Course, or your last Renewal Class.

The cost of the CCW Renewal Class is just $195 and includes the qualification with one weapon. Additional weapons are $25 each. To qualify, you will need to score with 72 rounds with the first weapon that you would like to have listed on your CCW Permit, on a standard B27 target. For each additional weapon that you would like to listed on your California CCW Permit, you will need to score with 20 rounds on a standard B27 target. The Renewal Class Fee also includes all class materials, range time and targets. Also included is a Certificate for 30-Days of FREE Range Time so that you can get some practice in, prior to the class.

The following 8-Hour CCW Permit Instruction Course will be taught out of the “NRA Guide To Personal Protection Outside The Home” and a Power Point Presentation.

  • Actions to be taken after a shooting
  • Preserving the “Scene” of a shooting
  • Interaction with Law Enforcement after a shooting
  • The emotional aftermath of a defense encounter and how to deal with it
  • The legal aftermath of a defense encounter and how to deal with it
  • The social aftermath of a defense encounter and how to deal with it

MODULE 2

Legal Aspects of Concealed Carry and Self-Defense

  • The responsibility of carrying a concealed weapon outside the home
  • Limitations on where you can carry a concealed weapon – Downloadable, Auto-Updating App
  • The only times that lethal force is justified
  • “Duty to Retreat” vs. “Stand your Ground”
  • Use of “Reasonable Force”
  • Presence of an “Imminent Attack”
  • Ability of the attacker
  • How to act during a Traffic Stop
  • How to act during any engagement with a Law Enforcement Officer
  • CCW Permit violation reporting
  • How to keep updated on Laws pertaining to concealed carry – Downloadable, Auto-Updating App

At the completion of the Renewal Class, we will issue to you a Renewal Class Certificate Of Training that you can upload to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, or submit to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. You should receive your new California CCW Permit within 90 days from the date that the Sheriff’s Department receives your Renewal Class Certificate Of Training and your Renewal Application.

Add Weapons to your California CCW Permit

Orange County residents can add weapons, an unlimited number of weapons, to their California CCW Permit at any time. Los Angeles County residents can only add weapons at Renewal time, with a maximum of 3 weapons. In order to add weapons, Orange County residents will need to score with 20 rounds with each weapon that you would like to have listed on your CCW Permit, on a standard B27 target. The qualifications are held at the OC Indoor Range in Brea, several times each month. The cost to add a weapon is $50 for the first weapon and $25 for each additional weapon, during the same session. Upon qualification, you will be issued an Add A Gun Certificate that you can upload to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department. You should receive your new CCW Permit with the added weapons, within 60 – 90 days. You can NOT carry these added weapons until you receive your new CCW Permit!
